I started working at a very young age, and was not able to continue with my studies due to personal reasons. While exploring and trying a few jobs, I found that I enjoyed working in the clinic setting the most. To my delight, despite my highest education and being a mother of two kids, I was selected to become a Clinic Assistant under Dr Melissa Teo Surgery/The Surgical Oncology Clinic.
It was a significant career switch, and my first time working in a Surgical Oncology clinic. I felt that it was an opportunity for me to learn new things, and my very first time working closely with my Doctors. Because of this, I have been able to understand more about patients’ emotions and have been given the opportunity to see how both of my Doctors offer emotional support to patients and their families. In addition, seeing how our efforts allow a patient to survive cancer, is also the best feeling ever.
Being a working mom is one of the most challenging and rewarding things I’ve ever done. Being a mom has made me a better woman, and let’s face it, when you have little kids, you stop stressing the little things, because you simply don’t have time to. I have always felt that being a woman was an advantage, not a disadvantage. I am grateful that because of the working hours at the clinic, I am able to send and fetch my kids to and from school, without rushing.
